The first project from level 6 of architectural study, emotive spaces was a research by design unit that comprised an architectural design, fuelled by a researched concept and a 5000 word dissertation. The design and representation of emotive spaces explored how an inhabitant feels in a space, and what architectural concepts create this feeling.

Emotive spaces studied light and claustrophobic spaces through the use of architectural modelmaking. As can be seen in photographs, a scale figure and perspective photography was used to simulate the spatial comfort experienced in the space and how this would be perceived when inside the space.

The research culminated in the design of an art pavilion, which sought to exacerbate the emotions and sensations felt within the space by teasing, controlling, restricting and finally liberating the quantity and quality of light and space. These concepts are embodied in a concrete pavilion that tantalisingly gives a glimpse of an inner garden before making the inhabitants navigate a labyrinth, devoid of light and space, yet allows larger and larger glimpses of the sanctum before revealing it in its full majesty. This final reveal makes the navigator more appreciative of the light, space and nature that is so abundant at the culmination.
